The Moon, Venus, Mercury, and Jupiter 1/1/2009

Welcome to 2009, the International Year of Astronomy.  Image above: Venus is below the 25% illuminated Moon, with Mercury (dimmer) just above and to the left of Jupiter.  You can see some Christmas lights on a neighbor's house across the hill.  Nikon D200, Nikon 18-200 VR lens tripod mounted for .4 sec at f5, ISO 800. 


High-Def Moon Picture, 1/1/2009

There was a fair amount of moisture in the air, resulting in a yellow-ish moon on the first night of 2009. The picture above is "high def" size, 1920x1200 pixels.  Image details: 1/40s, ISO 400, Canon EOS 20Da DSLR camera, Takahashi TOA 130  Telescope (a 5" APO refractor telescope with 1.6x tele-extender), AP 900GTO mount.

Nikon D200 tripod mounted, Nikon 300mm f4 AF ED lens, .8 second at ISO 800 at about 10:25 1/1/2009.
